Conversation on Cults

A couple weeks ago I answered my door to find 2 female Jehovah’s Witnesses. As best I could, I explained my faith in God and the only way to get salvation, which is accepting Jesus, who gave Himself up to die on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, into your heart after asking him to forgive your sins so that you live eternally with Him in Heaven.

Thankfully a wise friend shared a book, Know the Marks of Cults by Dave Breese, with me aimed at helping recognize destructive cults and defending our faith in our Savior Jesus Christ.

” . . . The Christian must not float through life on the wave of some existential euphoria. Rather the Scripture commands again and again that he must be careful, take heed, watch, remember. He is called upon to be very sober because his satanic adversary continues to go about seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8).

The Christian is supposed to be loving in his attitude toward people, but he must also face the hard truth that many deceivers have come into the world who do not believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ and are in fact enemies of the Lord. They are antichrist.”

Another excellent point to use for people who want to “stay true to Christ” and “protect themselves and their loved ones from these terrible subversive religious influences” is:

Be willing to contend” (which means oppose or argue or confront) “for the faith.

2 John 9-11 says “Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them. 11 Anyone who welcomes them shares in their wicked work.”

Finally, the Christian is “a soldier of the cross.” Ephesians 6:10-13 says “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”
